Planned Giving/Legacy Gifts

Making a legacy gift is a heartfelt way to support programs for lonely elders far into the future. With a legacy gift, you leave behind a personal legacy of philanthropy — in your name or a family member’s. You will also help us honor our promise of lifelong friendship to our elders.

You are able to name Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly in your will or trust or designate our organization as a beneficiary on your life insurance policy or retirement account.

Leave a bequest

To leave a bequest, the most common form of planned giving, to Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, Chicago Chapter, include this language in your will or living trust: “I give to Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, Chicago Chapter, an Illinois non-profit organization, whose present address is 355 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, Illinois, and its successors forever, the sum of $___ (or a percentage of the estate) (or description of property or stock, etc.) to be used as its Board of Directors determines.”

Name LBFE as a beneficiary

Little Brothers may be named as a beneficiary on your insurance policy or your savings, checking, or pension accounts. You retain ownership of the policy or account and the right to change your beneficiary during your lifetime. You can also designate Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly as a partial beneficiary for a percentage of the death benefit of your life insurance. For example, you could designate 90% of the benefit to your family, and the remaining percentage to Little Brothers.

Feel free to provide your financial planner with our Tax ID number, 36-2651505. We welcome the opportunity to answer any questions to ensure your philanthropic goals to help brighten the lives of Chicago’s isolated, lonely elders are met exactly. Contact Cecilia Straney, Chief Development Officer, at 312.455.1000 or by email.

While Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly can be named as a beneficiary of an existing trust, Little Brothers does not enter into bargain sales, charitable lead trusts, charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts with donors.

Food Drives

Food drives are a great way for friends, coworkers, or schools to make a collective impact! To organize a food drive to benefit elders in need and receive a list of most-needed items, email John Silver, Food Pantry Coordinator, or call 312.455.1000. Items can range from canned fruits and vegetables to low- sugar and sodium items for elders with dietary restrictions.

More than 120 elders rely on their Food Bags each month. And food drives help us stock our pantry so elders receive personalized Food Bags filled with pantry staples, fresh produce and healthy proteins hand-packed and delivered by Little Brothers volunteers.

Friendship and Celebration

Your support makes so much possible this holiday season, from three family-style parties on Christmas Day to special in-home and nursing home holiday visits and deliveries. With your help, we're able to remind Chicago's elders they are included and loved!
