Essential Services

We support our seniors with services that allow them to live independently for as long as possible. This outreach happens with the help of our volunteers and donors, who are dedicated to continuing to improve quality of life for Chicago’s isolated seniors.

Food Bag Program

During the second to last week of every month, when other resources can run low, we provide Food Bags containing a week’s worth of food to 125 elders in our program. Our volunteers pack bags with pantry staples and fresh groceries, including a selection of protein. And every bag is customized to fit each elder’s specific dietary needs and preferences. Food Bags are delivered by volunteers during a friendly visit — nourishment for the body and the soul.

Year-round donations and food drives to benefit our food pantry help our shelves stay stocked with nutritious food that is easy for our elders to prepare.

If you or your group or workplace would like to collect nonperishable food items for Chicago’s seniors, please email John Silver, Food Pantry Coordinator or call 312-455-1000 for more information.

Social Work Support

Our Social Worker provides critical information and support to our elders. These services also connect elders with vital resources in the community. Training for volunteers and staff in topics, such as grief and loss and end-of-life conversation, help ensure that we provide multi-level service to our elders and support for our volunteers and staff.

Emergency Weather Assistance

In extremely hot and extremely cold weather, we reach out to vulnerable elders to make sure that they are aware of how to stay comfortable, safe and well-prepared. We connect elders with resources in their communities, such as locations of local cooling and warming centers. And, in emergency circumstances, we make special deliveries of essential food items to elders who can’t get out of the house.

Friendship and Celebration

Your support makes so much possible this holiday season, from three family-style parties on Christmas Day to special in-home and nursing home holiday visits and deliveries. With your help, we're able to remind Chicago's elders they are included and loved!
