Two days before Thanksgiving every year, volunteers gather at Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly to carve 800 lbs. of turkey! Together with all the trimmings, it's served at one of three Thanksgiving Day parties. Holiday meals are also delivered to homebound elders, along with flowers and a friendly visit from a volunteer.
This year, The Peninsula Chicago's Executive Chef and WGN-TV joined a few of our longtime volunteers and tireless carvers. They talk about why they give back and what makes Little Brothers a special organization to them. Our CEO Simone Mitchell-Peterson explains Little Brothers' Thanksgiving traditions and gives a simple suggestion for how to help. And Chef Jose Fernandez shares his turkey carving tips. Watch WGN's whole segment here!
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly is a national network of non-profit volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. We offer to people of goodwill the opportunity to join the elderly in friendship and celebration of life.
